Last night, i subbed on bass with the house band at the open mic I usually go to on Thursdays, so I was up late.
The turnout for the open mic was terrible. The leader of the house band was very upset. Somewhere along the line, he decided to not give a shit. Sometimes, that's just what you have to do.
The few people who came out to play got to play long sets. The house still ended up with a lot of stage time.
The result, agreed to by the band and the very few witnesses, was some great music. Versions of songs that have never come out better, experiments with songs nobody'd played before, spontaneous rearrangements, mash-ups.
We ended up playing past the end of the open mic, when the only ones around were the bartender and the owner.
Great stuff, no audience.
