Daily Comment

I did a good gig today, early, but it took up more than 9 hours during the day. Rushing to get out, I forgot about breakfast, and didn't find anything suitable at the gig - a Harley-Davidson dealership event.

So I didn't eat, but I did have a great time. There was an extreme threat of rain the whole time, but, lo and behold, it held off the whole day.

That's a nice loss to start the weekend. Then, as I mentioned above, I didn't eat all day until around 7:30pm, when I was so hungry that my planned dinner turned to gluttony, and very off-plan eating.

At Sahota Palace, I had the Indian buffet, which included bean, chicken and vegetable dishes, as well as rice, breads, and rice pudding for dessert. And lots of everything!!

Although there's nothing bad going on, I have a sense of foreboding.

I feel more tenuous than positive. I don't know whether it's a combination of small things outside of my peripheral vision, or just the effects of a very late playing schedule this week - only 2 days; withdrawal.

Or facing a 3-day weekend with only a few planned hours. 

Hard to know.

A lot of late-night calories, and I'll own up to eating for a variety of reasons that had nothing to do with hunger and nutrition. At least, I didn't eat off-plan. Today, lunch at Ruby Tuesday's, maybe dinner out, as well.

Salmon and spaghetti squash. Not shown: from the salad bar, a big salad of Spring Mix, baby spinach, tomatoes, peas, bacon, broccoli, green peppers and parmesan cheese, with oil and vinegar. 


Snack
Soft-serve ice cream. Later, a protein bar.

Dinner
Roasted turkey with guacamole, and a Cacao-kale-hemp-chia protein shake: Almond-coconut milk, kale, a large egg, cocoa, hemp seeds, chia gel, whey powder (24g protein), cinnamon, psyllium and stevia-inulin blend.

Snack
Another protein bar.

Liquid Intake   
   Coffee:  28 oz.   Water: 124+ oz.

Yesterday, my diet comment was: "I'm beginning to forget what eating was like before Wegman's put protein bars I like on sale at half price." I'm beginning to think they are a trigger food, and, since I'm not using them as they are intended (meal replacement), they may be hurting my cause.

I came this close to deleting my Facebook account today.

I have been having a good deal of difficulty with the IM communications with the band, which we do on Facebook since the drummer can't send and receive text messages on his company-issued phone. 

But he can get to Facebook.

The problem with quickly-written communications, and with all short-form written communication is that nuance is not easily interpreted, and, of course, tone of voice and inflection are non-existent.

It is fertile ground for miscommunication. And there was a lot of that in communications with the band today.

Coupled with the fact that the newsfeed has a majority population of uninteresting, unfunny, insulting, trivial, and/or offensive and badly worded/spelled items, and a minority of entertaining, interesting, thoughtful, useful items, and I got frustrated.

So I did nothing.

Daily Comment

If change is the only constant, what do you do when things change in ways that make you uncomfortable?

Meaning that you don't like the changes that take place?

I'm thinking about that today, because I have always embraced change, and have tried to make any change a positive thing. I haven't always been successful with that, at least not in the short run.

The question comes when we try to evaluate the change. Most, if not all, of the time, we are unable to evaluate change, due to not being able to see the future, the way a particular change is going to alter things.

So what do we (I) do? We use the best information we have.

And then we take a guess at how to respond to change.

A guess is the best we can do most of the time.

I was just wasted today; the combination of effort and bad food from yesterday has left me feeling... out of sorts.

I do want to comment on yesterday's comment. I know when I talk about evidence, I risk descending into pretzel logic (proving something I believe on the basis of the thing I'm saying I don't believe). I just want to say that I do actually 'get' the scientific method, and will only use it in a scientific way (repeatably verified experimentation).

I mentioned to my drummer today that I did not feel making judgment on sensory information was very helpful. 

Then I had to explain what I meant, and I started with making judgments; how I and most people I have ever met do it, and do it badly, because we don't realize the role our unconscious and subconscious thoughts and habits play in decisions.

I then told him our sensory input is not direct, but rather it is interpreted by our minds, and nobody knows exactly how that process works.

It is the interpretive part that is the hangup. Because we think we know the factors that go into interpreting, so we think we form an objective (real) 'picture' of things.

Hah!

There is zero evidence of that, and a lot of evidence demonstrating how untrue that idea is.

Poor John. Now he has to live with a little cognitive dissonance for awhile.

Yesterday''s cheats off plan eating (ice cream, cereal, yogurt, sugar) showed up today. Not surprising. Unfortunately for my weight, today is an all dining out day, and while the food is good, even healthy, it is not on-plan. Also, the lighting in the restaurants was too bad for pictures. But it was delicious.

At Alto Cinco:  A three-egg omelet with cheese, chorizo and guacamole, with hash browns and black bean salsa, and grilled herb bread.

Dinner
At Munjeb's:  The combo plate, with grilled herbed lamb wit hpeppers and onion, hummos, falafel, dolma (stuffed grape leaves), tabouli and toasted pita.

Snack
At Alto Cinco:  A big bowl of gazpacho with chips and corn bread. Later, another protein bar.
