Good news! I am hurting less today.

The Flexitol I am taking for lower back pain is a drag, but it always works for back pain. The good news is that it is helping the hip pain I have been experiencing for the last three weeks or so.

Maybe the pain is muscular. I had dismissed that possibility because I couldn't think of anything I'd done to cause a muscle problem there. But maybe I did.

That would be a relief, and what I'm experiencing now is what I'd hoped would happen three weeks ago: I am healing, with the help of a muscle relaxer.

So... We'll see.

I'm grateful for the relief.

#2659, Thursday, May 27, '21: No hernia problem

About three weeks ago, I woke up and, as I moved my right leg, felt stabbing pain in my inner hip.

I thought, from the location of the pain, it was a hernia, found by my Primary Care doctor during my annual physical three years ago.

Sent to a surgeon for consult, it was decided to wait and watch if it grew or became more 'active'.

Yesterday, I got the results from an ultrasound I took to check if the hernia was the source of the pain. It is not. Too bad, because that would have been easy to fix.

Ruling out the hernia as the cause of the pain means it is possibly arthritis. An x-ray will be done. This is a new place where I've felt arthritis, and the pain has been much more sharp than my knees or hands (the other places I have arthritis). It may, after all, turn out to be muscular, although I can't think of any trauma I experienced at the location of the pain.

Meanwhile, after intensifying for the first two weeks, in the last two days, I've experienced some lessening of the pain. We'll just see how things progress.

Maybe I'll replace the hip, along with both knees.

Meanwhile, I will be changing primary care doctors, as my current one, who I've known for less than a year, is moving away from Syracuse. Too bad, I liked him.

I'm grateful for the good care I'm getting, anyway, and for the pain being manageable.

I didn't expect this! This big loss is possibly due to dehydration after not drinking much water in the twelve hours before I weighed in. I have to assume, no matter what I eat today, there will be a correction tomorrow.

While my doctor's appointment went well regarding my medical problem - Flexitol prescribed, ultrasound ordered (tomorrow), there was a surprise.

My primary moved away. I was seen by a doctor new to me. I thought she was okay, but as she's pregnant, I don't want her to be my primary. New babies are too distracting.

Otherwise, there's nothing much to report. The cause of my pain is still not known. Tomorrow's ultrasound may confirm or rule out the hernia. It may be arthritis. It may be something completely other. It is not likely to be vascular.

So... It's still wait and see.

I'm grateful for the rest of my condition, which seems good, and that the pain isn't worse - in fact, it's getting better.

It was one of my stranger trips.

My itinerary changed at the last minute, from NYC-Cary, NC-Wilbur By the Sea, FL, to the reverse - Florida first, then NC and NY.

A good thing, but it ended up with me being alone in Florida for five days. Which made the end of that part welcome. The time before my friends left? Wonderful. The part of my trip that followed, reconnecting with my friend Gerry in NC, and my brother and sister-in-law and friends in NYC, was great.

I ate well the entire time, although the City part was especially good. Much of my eating, for the ten days before I got home, was excellent in taste and quality, but off-plan.

So it goes.

Shortly after I got to Florida, I began to feel sharp, stabbing pain in my right groin area, near a hernia found a few years ago, that I was watching. It seemed worst first thing when waking. It also became progressively more painful, although it was minor once I got around moving. I made a doctor's appointment to get it looked at. That will happen tomorrow.

That pain has stopped getting worse (or I'm getting used to it), but it has stopped me from walking every day.

The new car is fantastic! I'm so entertained by its modernity. It behaved well on its maiden voyage.

Vicki has decided I'm a broken man in need of fixing, which she isn't interested in doing. Apparently, since she can't imagine herself being happy in my life, I am not happy with it, although she had thought I was - and I had thought I was.

I'm grateful for what I have.

Food and Diet
Today's Weight:
204.1 lbs.
Previous Weight (4/30/21):         198.5 lbs.
Net Loss/Gain:                     + 5.6 lbs.

Diet Comment
I gained over five-and-a-half pounds in twenty-four days. While that sucks, I am at no loss for an explanation. I have not been able to be very active for the last couple of weeks or so, and that is combined with some high-calorie, high-carbohydrate eating - maybe too much, especially on the tail-end of my trip. Now that I'm home and back in control of what I eat, I expect to lose the weight quickly.
