This is an unexpected result. I ate very well yesterday, except for two slices of bread. Is that where this weight gain come from? That is only 20 grams of carbs, and they're "good" (well, better than average) carbs. I have no answer.

While the weekend didn't go according to plan (in other words, a lot of off-plan eating), I definitely ate less, and the result (because while there was a lot of carbs, there wasn't much, if any sugar) is pleasing. I think I'd like to lose another ten pounds from here, in fact.

Although I lost a little weight today, I then went and ate a bunch of cake and cookies for lunch - I was at a political fundraiser, and that's what they had - and think I ruined the day.

Medical stuff has been on my mind.

First, in preparation for this coming Friday's complete physical (I haven't had one in more than eight years), I had a thorough blood workup. Thanks to the wonderful interwebs, I got the results back in under two days! And, they're great. Not one single test (out of about a hundred) was out of normal range. Not one.

The issues that I have to deal with are my well-controlled-by-diet-and-no-medications diabetes and my not-yet-too-bothersome arthritis, which I feel in my hands, knees and feet, but not all the time and, so far, not severe.

Obviously, that's good news. Today also marks the end of weeks of coughing for no reason (and sometimes, for a reason: smoking). I never felt sick and the cough wasn't painful, it was just there, and a nuisance. Especially while I was out in California. Who wants extra coughing in weed-legal LA? Not me, but there it was.

Also, today, I went to the dentist, to address problems that came up when a crown was replaced three months ago. It appears I was serviced by a new-hire dentist, and the replacement may have not been necessary, but was done poorly, in any case. The dentist who initiated the replacement and did the work was fired not long after my visit.

After the crown replacement, the tooth was sensitive to temperature and pressure, and I have not been chewing on that side of my mouth since.

In an hour-and-a-half session with the head of the dental practice I go to, it was fixed. Lucky me! It's already much better, and in a few days I think I'll be able to use all my remaining teeth to chew food.

Couple that with my typically good mood and generally excellent mental health (self-pronounced - you may feel different about it. I expect you do), maintained with regular music-making and hanging with people I love, and I feel like I'm in excellent shape.

At least, for right now.

I'm taking nothing for granted, and always grateful.

With this movement to the upside, I should get more serious about my eating, but despite wanting to be good, I stayed out and busy after breakfast at Core, and ended up being hungry with few good choices available, so did a little sabotage, which was delicious, but possibly not good for the bottom line. Worse than that, I was really hungry when I got home, after cleaning my plate!

Lunch
10:00pm, at Maxwell's:
Max burger: 1/2-pound of ground beef (medium), with fried onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, a fresh bun and chipotle sauce on the side; with hot fresh-fried, homemade potato chips.
Dinner
12:55am: Brussel sprouts with butter and Dubliner cheese, and two Quest bars.

No gain, no loss - that's a good weekend, and a bit of a surprise, too, since I finished up on Sunday with a not-entirely on-plan dish of Big Awesome BBQ's pork belly, pulled pork,  baked beans and pickled jalapeños, which includes a lot of sugar and salt and was delicious and totally worth it. But then again, I'd been drinking and it was irresistible, or, at least, it seemed a great idea at one in the morning... So, just glad to pull off the 'win'.

I think this weight gain is from the bag of nuts I ate at lunch - more than sixteen-hundred calories worth! You can't overeat like that and not gain weight. Plus, my late meal was also calorie-rich. Counting calories makes no sense, and the calories-in/calories-out theory of weight control has been thoroughly debunked (although it is still popular with many dietitians, nutritionists and salesmen. I see or hear it, I tune out). That being said, overeating is still a thing.
