I am blessed with a job that is pretty easy to do, with very little stress. The reason for this doesn't have much to do with me, but rather, with the nature of the employer. I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This means my employer does not have to make money to stay in business. In fact, my employer specifically does nothing to generate revenue for the business at all.

While the costs of doing business are carefully watched, there is no 'bottom line'.

My job is to help some of the people who provide service for Veterans. But nobody will die, or lose their job, if I do my job poorly. I don't do my job poorly, anyway.

Its just that there isn't always work to do. I don't have work unless something in my purview needs to be fixed.

I also work unsupervised. At the moment, my department doesn't have a manager. The Regional Manager in Buffalo is sharing the work with the Division Manager in Albany. My coworkers work in Accounting and Payroll or HR.

This means that at the rented office space where I work, there are no other people in my department (well technically, there's one, but he works from home, usually, and when he's not, he sits in a cubicle in the far corner of the office and doesn't talk to me.

So, I am unsupervised in an area without WiFi. My internet service is slow, usage is monitored, and frequently, ordinary sites are blocked.

Which is why I love my iPad.
