Daily Comment
I had such a weird disconnect on a gig last night.

Spring weather has arrived here, and I'm doing some duet stuff with a singer-songwriter-guitarist, and last night I sat in with him at a place I'd never been to before. I don't know what I was expecting - a coffee shop, a fern bar - but instead, it is a neat-as-a-pin bar-restaurant, with the emphasis on restaurant.

On my own, I would never have found this tucked-away-in-a-strip-mall, off-the-road place. But, in the Spring warmth, the clientele were out and representing on a Wednesday night. The restaurant and the bar was humming. It is a small place, and the bar was often 3-deep.

But it was the clientele that were disorienting to me.

They looked so not-from-CNY. I could have been in Santa Barbara, or Long Island, or Cary, North Carolina. This was a uniformly white, middle-class crowd. Much higher up the socioeconomic ladder than I am used to seeing in the Syracuse area, and they looked it. They looked Country Club. I haven't done a whole lot of hobnobbing with that set. 

And, of course, I hang out with musicians a lot. And in dive bars, too.

I think that fact has more to do with my slight disorientation at my environment than discovering a secret enclave of higher income WASPS. And it is all about my perception, and that is so subjective. It wasn't a judgment about the place and its clientele, it was an observation, and how I was entertained purely by the difference. Entertained by being disconcerted? 

That happened.

And, you know what? At the end of the night, I judged the success of the evening based on the music, anyway. So, I had a good time.

It's a nice place, with a pleasant ambiance and the food appears to be good - the meal they sent me home with (see below) was very good. I'll go back.

Sometimes I hate being right, but I knew that when I started snacking at 11pm last night it would mean a bad blip on the chart. I hate being right about my own missteps.

Lunch
IItalian-style chicken sausage on Paleo almond bread with guacamole and a salad of Spring Mix, baby spinach, coleslaw blend and balsamic vinaigrette.

Dinner
Wild-caught salmon patty on almond Paleo bread with cole slaw. 

Snack
Grilled salmon with bacon on a mixed green salad with ginger dressing, and hard-boiled eggs with guacamole and homemade mayonnaise.


Liquid Intake   
   Coffee:  22 oz.   Water:  64+ oz.
