Nothing. Dead time, until my regular Thursday-night jam, which went well. Decided to hit the road to NYC Saturday morning instead of Friday after work, to support some friends' gig that night.

  1. I went to a second chorus rehersal. I didn't want to and had spent the day being overwhelmed by allergies, then had a migraine but I went. And liked it - although it is very hard to feel incompetant.
I am glad equador is the first choice.
    Love you

  2. Good for you for going to Chorus. I'm proud of you for that - I know the temptation is to let it go - that's the easier path - but not the right path, in my opinion. I think singing in a chorus is one of the best things a person can do for their emotional and physical health. A long time ago, I read that people who did that (sang in a chorus or a choir) were statistically both longer lived and happier than people who didn't.

Ecuador moves to the top because it is so easy to go and stay there. Thailand still seems better to me in terms of lifestyle, but doesn't have the easy welcome for expats that Latin America and, to a lesser extent, Europe has. Thailand doesn't have a permanent residency visa, foreigners can't own land, there are no government benefits to make things easier for retirees (and, really, not many needed). Ecuador has all sorts of benefits for retirees and a choice of residency options, pretty easily gotten, as well.

But now that I am less than 2-1/2 years away from starting that next phase, the need to check these places out in person, for an extended visit, seems so much more obviously the place to go. Wherever I end up, I still plan to spend time in the US every year. In fact, I'm thinking now that I might not settle on just one place - spend 5 months here, a month in the US, 5 months there, a month in the US. So it goes. We'll see. I have no preconceived notions of how I will feel, it's all a grand experiment. Who knows? I could end up back in Syracuse.

    Love you always - Ken
