I have always enjoyed interacting with people who are creative in different media than I am. Poets, architects, performance and graphic artists, even some advertising folks.
I find their enthusiasm contagious, their perspective refreshing.
It is the same thing I enjoy when I got out to open mics and jam sessions to make music. Although, ideally, I get to play with excellent players, the real kick is to play with different players - those I don't know and haven't played with before, who challenge me to hear their musical ideas, and contribute something of my own, to make good, new, one-time-only music.
When the music is new like that, it has an independent, fleeting existence. Eric Dolphy said on 'Last Date,' "When you hear music, after it's over it's gone in the air. You can never capture it again."
It's a beautiful thing. It restates the truth/rule/law of Impermanence. Recordings... aren't the same, are not experienced the same as when the audience is in the creative moment, and it is certainly not the same for the musicians creating that moment.
When I am involved in a project, as I am now, that utilizes people possessing different talents, such as graphic arts, video and music recording, copy writing, printing and advertising (the project is i am Fool's first CD, Freak in the Machine), I get invigorated and energized.
These imaginative people leverage their talents to create something new, shaped by events and ideas outside of my personal experience. This means they come up with ideas I never would have thought of, and that really gets my imagination going, thinking in new directions. And where that road leads...
That's... jazz.

Yesterday's high-fat late-night snack is, I think, responsible for the lack of loss. Today was a better day.

I left a comment the other day but it didn't post. I don't know why. Things are much the same as usual. Nothing new. This is good. Love you
