I have been thinking of shaving off my beard for a couple of weeks. After watching a few videos of myself from the rehearsals I've been doing, last night I decided it was time.
I have one of those faces that changes dramatically with facial hair.
I've had a beard, on and off, since I could grow one - I believe the first time I grew one out I was seventeen or eighteen.
It was part of my attempt to seem as mature as my friends, most of whom were at least a year or two older than that (from age sixteen onwards).
Of course, it's hard work and quite self-damaging to appear as something you're not, but that's a conversation for another time.
So, just before midnight, I got out my clippers, and, preserving various mustache shapes, one of which I briefly kept - just long enough to send a quick pic to Alex, who I told, at the same time, I was thinking of getting rid of the 'stache - he agreed it was better to lose the lip awning.
And so, here we are. I'm going to be shaving for a while.
I look less like a muppet, and a lot younger (although that is never a consideration for me). I like the look well enough. If I miss the beard, it only takes two weeks grow it back.
I'm grateful for my life and my good looks.
