The weight recorded today is semi-fictitious, but it is an estimate based on my weight at 9pm, after eating and drinking during the day, and how I felt when I was getting dressed before going out.
I am writing this on Saturday, August first. I have had an unusual, satisfying and exhausting couple of days, during which I was out of the house early (for me), and rushed to get out, meaning not only that I would have been weighing myself less than eight hours since my last meal, but also that I didn't have a spare minute to get myself ready.
There won't be a post tomorrow, which means the next post will be Monday's (you'll see it Tuesday).
What's been going on is that I've been rehearsing for a recording and live show on Friday, July 31.
This has been a great experience for me.
There's a little irony in this: I was asked to come in when the original bass player 'flaked out'. That bass player was also the original bass player in I am Fool.
Anyway, the project was backing Lou, a singer-songwriter-guitarist, making a CD and preparing for a live benefit concert for Lou's infant daughter, on July 31. I went to my first rehearsal on June 9, with less than three weeks for the assembled musicians (John, the drummer from I am Fool, who was also the one who recommended me for the spot, and the singer's uncle, Phil, on lead guitar) to prep for the recording/performance.
We rehearsed in a recording studio at the home of one of LiveNation's senior sound engineers, Ron. It turns out Ron is a good friend of my good friend Frank. Now he's my friend, too.
I was also going to contribute by playing an 'export' set - the stuff I play when I travel - solo guitar and vocal. As it came down to the wire, though, Murphy's law took hold. First, the venue pulled out - they were having issues with Covid-19 liabilities. It was decided we'd do the show live in the studio.
Today (well, Thursday, the date of this post), we laid down the basic tracks for the CD. Also, it was the dress rehearsal for the performance set. I felt really good about everything.
Late that night, Ron, the engineer, discovered a problem with his live-casting, and a decision was made to record the sets and stream the recordings, instead.
I got an early call to come in at 10:30 in the morning. Unfortunately, I didn't get the call until I woke up a little after ten that morning. As a result, I didn't get there until after 11. So it goes.
We took some time to lay down tracks for the recording we hadn't gotten to the previous day, then we recorded the set. It took longer than anyone expected, due to some hardware limitations. By the time Ron was ready to record my short set, it was after 5, and Ron was split between preparing the band set for broadcast and my recording.
Just as I finished, my set, the upload crashed. Ron pleasantly asked me to get the fuck out and leave him to work out the mess. He was scrambling.
In the end, the broadcast happened, but not with my set, and not without other difficulties. The only way people could see what we'd done was to play the youTube clips. There wasn't even, originally, a playlist - they had to play them one at a time.
Now there is:
Songs For Bernadette playlist.
My set was never mastered, posted, or aired. I'll get it down the road. It's all good.
I'm grateful for the experience. It was 100% good, and I was always pretty unattached to any results. I was just really happy making music with friends old (John) and new (Ron, Lou and Phil).
