Daily Comment
Marge is one of my favorite characters on the local music scene. I don't know her very well, but she is funny, charming and full of life. She's also the oldest person I see when I go out to play or listen to music. I'm only guessing, but I think mid-70s.

She's small - in that old-woman-caricature way. I practically have to bend in half to give her the peck on the cheek I greet her with when I see her. I can look at her, and see that she was probably quite a beauty when she was young. She's beautiful still, in that transparent way that reveals the inner truth.

She's originally from New York City, and, like me, still has relatives there, in the Bronx.

When the music's good, you find Marge dancing. She dances like a teenager from the Roaring 20's, which she is too young to have known. She dances with strangers, she dances alone.

When the music's less than good, she nurses a Scotch and soda and waits for the beat to pick up.

She enjoys open mics (one of the elite handful few who enjoy without participating). Late in the evening, if the host is willing, she'll do an a capella version of one of the standards from the Great American Songbook. Tonight was one of those nights: she treated us with a rendition of 'What a Difference a Day Makes'.

Her voice is delicate, a little thin, but not feeble - she hits her notes. Her vibrato is wide, probably a little out of control, but she makes it work.

Marge, for your quick smile, your warmth, your willingness to be exactly who you are, doing what you want you to do, and your loving nature; for being the kind of person that makes every woman say, out loud, that they hope to be like her when they're that age; today, Marge, I celebrate you.

I think the reason for the lack of weight lost yesterday is the lack of high water intake. That's the only explanation I can think of. I expected a bit of a loss.
