#1917, Friday, August 18: An opportunity to help

Tonight I got a Facebook Message from an acquaintance I haven't seen for a while - about eighteen months.

It turns out she needed a little money.

Her story was that she had an infection and her insurance from her new job hadn't kicked in yet, and she was broke before her paycheck, a week away.

The amount in question was seventy dollars. I sent it to her via Western Union (her bank accounts were screwed up, too, so that was the only way), which cost me an additional thirteen dollars.

Of course, she told me she would pay me back, she's coming to visit her family in a few weeks.

I have some doubts about her story, but on the chance that it's genuine, and someone I know genuinely needs help I am willing to risk the money. Worst case, I never get it back, for a loss of eighty-three bucks. It was given without the expectation that it would be repaid. If it gets her medicine, it's money well-spent. If it is lost to some addiction (maybe the most likely scenario), I've still taken the opportunity to be compassionate.

In my world, where I can afford it - the money will come back to me in some form or another, and I will not miss a meal or a night's sheltered sleep - I don't feel taken advantage of. I can be grateful that, one way or another, there will be no second time. It is already in the rearview mirror, and the only circumstance that will bring it up again is repayment.

Diet Comment
Nearing a yearly low weight. The loss is unlikely to last the weekend, when I will  be visiting friends and going to a couple of parties, but that is in the future. All right, the very near future, but still, not now. Now, we celebrate!

6:35pm: Green-red protein smoothie with coconut-almond milk, kefir, large organic egg, chia gel, kale, spinach, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, whey powder (24g protein), coconut oil, hemp seeds, hemp protein (7g protein), raw organic cacao powder, moringa leaf powder, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla extract and stevia-inulin blend.

Dinner
11:10pm: Chicken sandwich (chicken breast, spinach, guacamole on Ezekiel 4:9 Flax sprouted grain bread).

Liquid Intake
   Espressos: 0;   Coffee: 22 oz.;  Tea: 0 oz.;  Water: 72+ oz.;
