The show, Reverend Ken's Summer of Love Festival, was fantastic.

The vibes were great, iffy weather at the start gave way to a gorgeous , comfortably cool evening, beginning with a beautiful sunset.

We had one performer back out at the last minute, and that turned out to be exactly what was needed to get the whole thing done in the allotted time, after a slightly late start, and a fifteen minute stage blackout due to a tripped breaker (it took a while to find that damn breaker).

The performers did an outstanding job - everybody surpassed my expectations. I also reunited with some acquaintances and made one new friend among them.

I was happy with my own performance, and good thing, too. Of the eleven acts that performed, I supplied bass for seven. I only left the stage/backstage area once, and that was to change outfits during what was supposed to be the intermission. I ended up having to do that in the dark, but it got done, and was well worth it for the attention it got (my star suit).

There was a single highlight. My newest band, Scuba Gear, did the next-to-last set. The final song was Aretha Franklin's Baby I Love You, which featured a vocal by my i am Fool bandmate and Scuba Gear band leader Tamaralee. And she killed it. We got the only standing ovation of the night. For me, it was also the first opportunity in decades to play the kind of music I came up with and adored. It felt so good. I nearly teared up with emotion.

All throughout the show, and maybe more so in the aftermath, there was so much love among the performers, and so much coming to me, I was exhilarated more than I was exhausted. The show ended a few ticks past eleven, but with the shmoozing and load-out I didn't get home until almost one in the morning. I was so wound up, I didn't get to sleep until after three.

No complaints. I took it easy Sunday, lots of thank you messages going out and coming in. A lot of gratitude being expressed, no complaints. Sort of drifted in and out of sleep. But in the late afternoon I went and played at an open mic, then took a nap, and played at the end of the Rooters Sunday night jam, which was wonderful.

I am grateful that I can make music with and for my friends - it is joyful, it is practically ecstatic - what abundance!

This was completely predictable - in fact, once again, I feel like I've gotten away with something with under a two-and-a-half pound increase. Over the weekend, I consistently ate carb-heavy and included quite a few desserts as well. I know what that means, and I know the fix.
