In some ways, I found myself disappointed today, which is funny to me, because the negatives of the day were relatively trivial and limited.
I started the day unpacking my new mixing board. I was disappointed by how complex it was, and how much time it took me to download the much more helpful manual I got with registration. But I am happy with the product, untried though it is.
Next up came a rehearsal that a few band members didn't attend, and where we worked on a set list instead of playing. Not playing when I thought I would is always disappointing.
Brenda bailed on me again, which is disappointing, but did afford me time to re-schedule my open mics and eat a good breakfast (at late-dinner time, which I scored as lunch).
Getting to Shifty's late, then, I found that the person I had asked to sign me up failed to do so. Normally, this would be disappointing, but since I was asked to accompany a singer even before I walked through the door, this time this common problem had no effect. There was quite a good crowd, I felt the set I played on was good, I had conversations with young people and my-age people, and more, and ended my night with a smile.
The disappointments along the way? Forgotten. Remembering to be grateful for what I had during the day? Most definitely.
