- 1,145 days since I started this blog -

Daily Comment
On its way to death, life often throws some curves. My first wife Nell, dying of cancer, was given five to eight days, and hung in for more than ten weeks. Today, after fighting a post-pneumonia near-death crisis that included an induced coma, to the point of scheduling his hospital departure, a bass-playing friend of mine passed quietly and painlessly, surrounded by friends and family.

So it goes. I feel sad, and made a few toasts at the open mics I attended last night. I don't worry about my coming death at all. I don't worry about much these days, except that I might outlast some of the people I love - I quake at the thought of their being ill, let alone lost to me.

Holding my own, unexpectedly, given the little feast I had at midnight yesterday, but I'm taking it and liking it.
