Daily Comment

I am frequently reminded not to get attached to the idea of being right.

In the past, this was very important to me. These days, not so much.

I still like to correct factual errors, but find fewer of my personal interactions involve facts than involve feelings, ideas, and processes these days.

This gives free reign to subjectivity, an area where facts have little power. I suspect facts have diminishing utility in all areas of life. Everything else is subjective, so I try not to confront anyone over that - why should I?

I have to remember that even my most cherished ideas are illusory, and have no more worth than anybody else's, except to me, and, in social interactions, they may not be seen as having as much value as I attach to them. I always think I'm right, and I know I'm not always right.

Why does this come up now? Because i am Fool will be making a video. Last week, when making videos was suggested, my response was, "That would be nice, but perhaps not the best use of our energy now, while we are rebuilding after the addition of a new member." In other words, not a high priority item, to me.

A few days later there was an announcement for an opening slot at a prestige venue, that was going to be given to the group whose video got the most Facebook 'Likes'. So, we are making a video.

There was a time when I wanted everybody to know how smart I was, how I was right about things. Being right about things was very important to me, and I enjoyed a good debate - it was a chance to show how right I was.

Things change. Best not to resist change. Bend don't break, and all that.
