Today seems like a good day to comment on the journey.

I got down to my lowest weight since I started this blog, and I'm kind-of still looking to lose more weight - my new 'ideal' is 190 pounds.

That will be for next year.

I'm a dozen days away from starting my Winter-anywhere-but-Syracuse, leaving for Lisbon for a month. That will be followed by a few days to re-pack, then leaving for Chiang Mai for a month. After a few days to re-pack, I'll drive down to Florida for a few weeks, followed by Mardi Gras in New Orleans, followed by a few days in North Carolina on my way back to Syracuse.

That nearly continuous time away poses a challenge to maintaining this blog.

I am actually contemplating buying a scale in Lisbon, so that I can continue tracking my weight without a three-month gap. The bigger problem will be keeping track of the food I eat, since I will rarely be cooking for myself, and think it is likely that I will eat stuff I can't identify. At that point, I guess, there will be a lot of pictures, which might not be so bad.

Then the commentary becomes more of a trip journal, and the food section stays what it was, and includes the charts, finishing up 2018 and starting 2019. Even typing it just now, I realize this idea has a lot of appeal.

An awful lot of people have asked me to write about my trip, in the most flattering terms: By immediately responding, when they learn about my travel plans, with excitement to "read all about it." I've lost count of how many times I have heard people say they're living vicariously through me. Like I said, flattering, and I'm susceptible to flattery.

In fact, tonight, I was cornered by a musician who laid it on very thick, complimenting my bass playing, my coolness, my 'awesomeness'. He wanted me to join his band (another member had asked me, also, as had the current bass player). The attraction to joining the band is that I really enjoyed playing with the drummer when I finally did a few weeks ago. He was the first person to ask if I was available to join the band.

I told him I was, at the time, a month away from leaving town for three months, and felt that quarter-year absence pretty much disqualified me for new band commitments. I already felt bad for my current band mates.

And, that was my reply tonight - I'm gone until Spring. To my great surprise, the immediate response was, "Will you join in the Spring?" I told him then that I was in two bands already, and that conflicts would not be resolved in his favor. It was harsh, but honest. I did tell him, to soften it a little, that I had never, in all my playing years, failed to show up for any gig I committed to.

His reply? So, that's a yes, right? I'll be the bass player in the Budd Zunga Band starting next March. Maybe. A lot can happen between now and the first gig. But Budd's a good guy, and Dave Clement, the drummer, is the shit. If it does happen, that is going to be one fun rhythm section.

I am so very grateful, and thankful, for the oh-so-interesting twists and turns of my life.

What a way to end the week! My lowest weight of the year. Happy dance. I celebrated at a gig-party, and the other events of the weekend, including another party and a recording session, probably mean this low will be gone by Monday, but that's a concern for then. Meanwhile, I've clearly established a trend, and have something to celebrate...
