Aretha died today.

I remember the first time I heard her. I was hanging out with Tom Jones, my high school best friend who introduced me to Soul music.

Although I had heard and liked her music before Respect came out, it was that record that made me a lifelong fan.

When it was announced she was dying, I felt bad. Today, when I found out she was dead, I experienced a flood of emotions. As I played her songs, I began to grieve. When I saw her performance at Kennedy Center, I cried from the moment she takes the stage to the standing ovation at the end. It was cathartic.

For fifty years her music moved, inspired, entertained and informed me. Among the singers I love most, hers was the greatest voice.


She had a unique place in my life.

I will always be grateful for the gifts she gave me: She helped define music for me, and showed me its power like nobody else. RIP, Aretha.

Today's Weight:                      204.1 lbs.
Previous Weight (8/16/18):           202.3 lbs.
Net Loss/Gain:                       + 1.8 lbs.
Diet Comment
I thought my weight loss over the last few days was a little extreme, and I guess after a day of normal, on-plan eating a correction could be expected. Here is is. Still, a good recovery from the excess of last weekend, and this one-day gain could be due to nothing more than forgetting to take my thyroid hormone replacement (which I did on Thursday).
Food Log
Breakfast
3:10pm: LEO (lox, eggs and onions) with a salad (Spring Mix, spinach, red cabbage, walnuts, shaved parmesan and balsamic vinaigrette).

Lunch
Skipped.

Dinner
1:00am: Pasta salad, corn chips, popcorn, Oreos, cheese and crackers.

Liquid Intake
   Espressos: 1;   Coffee: 12 oz.;  Tea: 0 oz.;  Water: 48+ oz.;
