- 11 years and 218 days since I started this blog -
Unlike the week before, this has been a really good week for music for me.
Where, in the previous week, I was shut out on three different occasions I thought I'd be playing, this week I was specifically invited to play, and one occasion turned into a new, ongoing gig.
At last Sunday's blues jam at the Night Spot, my friend Justin Bridges, a musician friend from Texas with a marijuana business in Oregon, an occasional resident of Syracuse, with original music and a touring band, asked me to "jam" at his gig next Friday (today).
I assumed he meant for me to get up and play a few numbers. He did not. He meant I had the bass chair at that gig, which I only found out today, a few hours before the gig's start.
So... Tonight I played my second gig since before the pandemic, and it was pretty damned wonderful. I got to play with a few of my favorite musicians, including first-choice drummer and real friend Bobby Brown, and best friend Frank Stepanek.

I'm not bragging when I say the music was great. People danced. People live-streamed. People complimented me/us on the music. The bar owner bought me a drink! And all the musicians involved were happy.
At the end of the gig, Justin asked if I would perform with these guys as his local band at gigs in the future. I agreed.
I've been getting great reviews of my performances since things have reopened, and I must admit I'm enjoying myself immensely, and am a bit self-satisfied.
And grateful.
