Pain was the main feature of the Memorial Day weekend.

Some weeks ago, I woke up with a stabbing pain in my right leg. I couldn't recall anything I'd done to bring it on, no falls or stumbles. I thought it was an old hernia that had been put on 'wait and see' status three years ago.

When I got back from my road trip last week I made a doctor's appointment with a new doctor. It turns out my new Primary Care provider is moving out of the area. Too bad, I liked him, and he'd only just joined the practice.

The new doctor, who may or may not become my Primary Care doctor, ordered an ultrasound, which came back negative for hernia growth.

Now I need to get an X-ray. The pain has evolved - it is no longer a sharp, stabbing pain, now it is an ache, but the painful area from my inner right hip has grown to include my butt and lower back.

Nonetheless, I drove seven hours (roundtrip) on Sunday to go to a reunion party of my old Clearview friends in New Paltz, NY. Which was a lot of fun. And a lot of food, which I indulged in.

That was the highlight of the weekend. Everything else was just coping with the pain, which comes and goes now.

I'm grateful for all my wonderful friends. I have the best friends a man could ask for.
