In a terrible bit of timing, yesterday was Syracuse's most beautiful day of the year: Sunny and warm. At about one in the afternoon I felt a little tickle in my throat. By five I was coughing. By eight I was coughing a lot, and feeling weak and feverish.
I feel like shit today, after getting only a little sleep. Tomorrow, I fly to New Orleans for a week, for JazzFest.
No refund available for my airfare or AirBnB, so I'm going, despite.
I'll be sick in New Orleans, if this doesn't just turn out to be allergies, which is what I thought it was until I felt feverish, but I'm hoping that is it, and NOLA is the cure.
What I fear most about it is that it may be the same thing that every single person I know up here has been dealing with sometime in the last month or so. I fear that it is the same, and that is a tenacious, long-lasting illness, usually taking weeks to get over.
We'll deal.
Anyway, this will be my last blog until the day after I get back (which means you'll see it next day: Friday, May 4).
I'll write a trip report then.
I am still looking forward to NOLA, and thinking about where I'll go after I get back. During May, I have only one hour of playing on my schedule, in the exact middle of the month. I want to visit New York City. I want to go back to Florida. I may have the bandwidth to do both.
I'm grateful to have choices - or the illusion of choice, if that's your philosophical take.
