My tragedies seem to work out into compensating opportunities (and then some...).
My friends' tragedies (of which, sadly, there have been many recently) turn into opportunities for them, and for others.
Recently, for instance, Chad Bradshaw, leader of Bradshaw Blues, was in a motorcycle accident. He was badly injured. But he is recovering faster than he, or anybody, expected, and will be able to resume his musical activities long before I, for one, thought.
Meanwhile, some of the gigs that had to be canceled while he recuperates have been taken up by i am Fool, and others will be done by J. (leader of i am Fool) and myself.
J. is also dealing with health issues, and is in constant pain. This has led him to want to work hard and fast on all his other projects: Recording, i am Fool, a small acoustic act, theater stuff.
It is a seesaw, and the only way to deal is by not having expectations, other than that things will be up and down (change will happen). Not easy to put into practice, but I'm getting a lot of practice.
This is what I mean: Just as I was writing the above I got a call. A bass-playing friend lost his mother, and his band (friends of mine and i am Fool's) has to cancel a gig. i am Fool is picking up the gig in a venue we've wanted to play for quite a while.
You see?

ReplyDelete- Light - Love - Compassion -
i've been thinking about what i wrote (above) and thought it sounded both oblique and bleak. What i was trying to say is about characterizing the sequence of events as somehow cause and effect. i think that cause and effect is an illusion of a snapshot viewing that obscures the actual in the constantly changing now which "happens" as we experience the "balancing" nature of all with everything, which is invisible to we who are within it and unknowable to us because of our experience of limitaion and duality..
ReplyDeleteThere! That should clear things up!
I agree with andy. I think human beings "make sense" of things- There is a psychological literature on it- the just world hypothesis. Not logical. Things just happen.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am hungry and your food looks great. Love you both.
Happy New Year.
Happy new year. I know what you mean - both of you - it is a very common fallacy, and I've wrote about it here in the past, when discussing the idea of time. It is my belief that time itself is an illusion created to make sense out of our perceptions. In that sense, cause and effect are meaningless terms, and all you have to do is look at any event, and trace back the 'causes' - it is fruitless, because the number of things that happened to create even a trivial event are incomprehensibly vast. This leads me to conclude that we can never understand the cause of a thing because we never perceive a 'complete' event. It's like that scene in Airplane 2!:
ReplyDeleteSteve McCroskey: Jacobs, I want to know absolutely everything that's happened up till now.
Jacobs: Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.
