I hired a lawyer to get my brother's 'estate' under my control.

It's important for a few reasons. First of all, his wife needs the money for relocation. Secondly, it has to be put in a trust so that it doesn't appear as her money (which it definitely is) so that she can qualify for better services. Finally, I need the money back I've paid out in fees - it's more than three thousand dollars.

I haven't been able to successfully get a hold of it on my own, despite good legal advice I've gotten. The primary obstacle has been my sister-in-law's inability to deal with the mess my brother made of their lives, and cognitive problems she seems to have that only became visible to me in the last few weeks.

I worry about her a lot. But worrying is never helpful.

Hiring a lawyer, on the other hand, is a huge help, and therefore a huge relief.

I'm grateful for the resources I have to help smooth out the bumps in the road I'm traveling.
