My long weekend began tonight as I got together with the made-for-the-gig band Marc Caselle and the Regulars to host Rooters Open Jam and BBQ. This is the group I had played with last week, and had such a good time. This week, a different drummer but we got along great!

Opening set was an hour-long groove, and I finally got to cover the Stones 'Waiting On A Friend' properly, and it felt really good. Definitely a highlight, but just one moment out of many that I enjoyed in the first hour.

As the night went on, I got in some good jamming, and got to eat some good smoked meat (took half home for 'dinner'). Also got to live-test the monitors I just bought for my little PA - they checked out fine.

After the gig was over, I drove out to a friend's newly-opened bar where they just started a Thursday-evening open mic. I'll be subbing for the bass-player (another friend - yes, there's a theme here) there in two weeks. Talking to my friend, I arranged to have my next birthday party there.

I saw a few old friends from the Mac's Bad Art Bar crowd; the new bar, the InsideOut Tavern, is near where the old location was. It doesn't take much to make me nostalgic about Mac's. Sigh. Then they asked me to play in a set (I hadn't even considered this possibility, since I got there only fifteen minutes before the advertised end of the show). I was introduced to a guitarist, and we hit it off, and the set, despite a rather erratic drummer, was a great success. I really enjoyed playing with the guitarist, Rob. I live for this stuff.

I have gigs the next three nights (including a return to Rooters on Sunday). I'm already tired. Luckily, playing energizes me.

So very grateful for these opportunities.
