#1927, Friday, September 1: More on my distracted self

Daily Comment
Back to yesterday's topic of my wandering attention/focus and easy distractibility (is that a word?).

The place where it is most obvious to me is writing these Daily Comments.

Take this one, for instance.

In the middle of the previous paragraph ("The place where it is most obvious..."), I decided to listen to some music I've been listening to lately (to learn for the open mic I'm hosting in September).

Before I came back to writing this, I decided to track down the unidentified tracks on the CD I'd been given. That led to a lot of time on youTube - about a half hour. Then I imported the CD into iTunes and identified the song name and artist there.

But right after writing, "Take this one, for instance..." I had to go to the bathroom. When I finished that, I decided to have a smoke, went to the living room for that, but was distracted by a bit of a mess I've left for myself where I want to set up a new mixing board. I started to tidy up, but then remembered I wanted to finish this comment.

I didn't have the smoke, or finish tidying anything else up. I had set myself up in iTunes to listen to the music I wanted to, and gone to the bathroom. But more than a half hour had passed since I left off with my writing.

Actual writing time for this comment was about ten minutes. But all in all, it took an hour to complete. And two other tasks (and more I thought of that I didn't start) remained incomplete. And time marches on...

Is this old age, or me feeling free from schedule pressure? No, old age. It was totally blowing schedules/appointments that made me realize how uncontrolled this behavior had gotten in the first place, prompting yesterday's Daily Comment in the first place.

Nothing left for me to do except be grateful for the insight that might help me correct, or at least cope with and manage this.
