#1562, Wednesday, December 16: Joy in change

Daily Comment

I started yesterday's Daily Comment with this: "Nothing is permanent. Everything changes, has ups and downs, becomes present, becomes absent. Everything."

By the end of the night, something I liked a lot became absent, which I wrote about in the Daily Comment right before I posted yesterday.

Once again, I am challenged by my own words.

I had quickly become attached to those Tuesday night open mics. They were fun, they provided me with my favorite kinds of musical challenges, and the other musicians in the house band were some of my favorite people to play with. And it was a little extra weekly spending money to boot.

All gone in a blink. Canceled due to an argument between management and the man running the open mic (not a member of the house band). Up to that point, from my point of view, everybody (including management) seemed to love and enjoy the Tuesday night show (and I know for a fact that the house band was very appreciated by the Flat Iron management and staff).

What was wonderful, and indicative of why I enjoyed this so much, was the attitude of the other members of the band. One of my friends was angry, and thought it was a bad move by management. But he and the other members' main thought (and mine, too) was gratitude. Thankfulness for an excellent ten-week ride.

And, that is the comfort I take.

I am so grateful for having had the opportunity represented by this open mic. It truly was a great run for every one of the eleven Tuesdays.

I don't know what the future holds, but whatever it does, this good time will lead to something else, maybe something that could only have been made possible by playing in this house band, and then, not.

I have a feeling I'll enjoy whatever unfolds. Joy is this season's operating mode.

Beef broth bowl with kale, spinach, broccoli, black beans, mushrooms, red and green peppers, chicken and bacon.
Snack
A Quest bar and part-skim Ricotta cheese (a surprisingly good combination).

Dinner
At Eskapes: Steak Marsala with sautéed vegetables. 


Snack
A Quest bar.

Liquid Intake
   Espressos: 1Coffee:  24 oz.;  Water: 64+ oz. and a shot of Jameson's Irish whiskey.
