Regular three-month doctor's visit today, following up on my quarterly blood tests.
The tests monitor (mainly) four areas of interest: diabetes, blood lipids, thyroid hormone level, and elevated phosphates.
That last is the only new area of interest.
Usually elevated phosphates come from bone loss or liver function.
This time, we eliminated bone loss as a problem. I've scheduled an ultrasound to see if there are any visible (audible?) signs of liver damage. What I think is that my liver is function is a bit abnormal, as it has been my entire adult life (hepatitis B when I was 18).
My cholesterol numbers are a little high, but not anything I'm concerned about. Mainly, I'm not concerned about cholesterol levels at all, I don't think they're a useful indicator of anything. My doctor wants to increase my dosage of statin - I'm at a minimum dose now - but I don't like statin drugs, their side-effects are not worth their bandaid cure for a problem (bad cholesterol numbers) that I don't think is a problem.
For some reason, after decades of stability, I need to titrate my thyroid hormone - down. I am, apparently, producing more, naturally, than I was. Go figure, but it's a good thing. Speaking of which, after years of identically good results for my blood sugar test, this time it changed, and my blood sugar levels actually dropped five percent.
I am very happy with the results, overall. Grateful how things are working out.
