Update: At my doctor's visit this morning, after reviewing my most recent (last week) lab work and taking a throat culture, doctor said, "Aside from this infection, which I suspect is viral and will heal in time, your blood work is excellent! If I didn't know you had diabetes, there's nothing here that would indicate it. You're controlling it perfectly!"

Note: I deal with my diabetes only by my diet. And by "diet" I mean, what I eat (and don't eat), not any temporary plan. Over the last four+ years, I have developed an eating plan that works, and that I can stick with long-term. Thus, most of the weight I've lost stays lost, and I need only return to the basics of my eating to correct any lapses.

This was the fundamental purpose of my initial weight loss effort, begun four years ago, and in maintenance for the last three-and-a-half years.

That's an achievement, right there. Given that I'm still not 100% over my infection, I'll take that.
