Monday, August 18 Lucky and grateful for it

Not that I need lessons in humility (Dorothy Parker: "He has so much to be humble about"), but I'm really feeling it today.

I woke up grateful, and the impact of the weekend's events was just flooring (grounding?) me.

My friends, my family - wow! These are incredible people, and I have no idea what wonderful thing I must have done to deserve having them in my life - they're so good, it seems so unequal.

I want to do good deeds for them. I want to be worthy. I want to feel this way all the time (well, I mostly do, these days).

A little drama over the weekend just emphasized this. In the early hours of the morning on Saturday, my good friend Gary had to go to the ER with heart attack symptoms. It turned out to be a side-effect of the radiation therapy he's getting for his lung cancer, and he was released in time for the reunion.

Nothing like imminent loss to emphasize the value of something. Even a friendship. The keyword is emphasize, because the quality and value of this four-and-a-half decade friendship transcends any idea of quality and value.

As does my love for all my friends and family.

So this sappy little post comes full-circle - I am the luckiest, happiest person I know. As far as I know. How do I know?

I don't know the answer to that. But I'm happy and extraordinarily lucky. Metaphysical note: If there's no such thing as luck, I'm just extraordinarily happy and grateful.

This was a fun weekend, with almost all the waking hours spent traveling, playing or at a party, and I didn't worry a lot about what I ate. Unfortunately, there was a lot of off-plan food around, and the only time I ate on-plan was when I was at home. And there was no fasting, which would have been appropriate. Today, no better, what with the wonderful Ironwood pizza being part of my gig pay.

Food Log
Breakfast
A cocoa-hemp-kale protein shake (almond-coconut milk, kefir, kale, large organic egg, whey powder (24g protein), hemp seeds, hemp protein (7g protein), raw organic cacao powder, chia gel, moringa leaf powder, celery, cinnamon and stevia-inulin blend.

Lunch
Chopped salad with Buffalo-wing style chicken breast, black beans, baby kale, baby spinach, chard, and balsamic vinaigrette. Not shown: broccoli slaw, cole slaw  as salad ingredients, and I didn't have the shaved Parmesan that's in this picture. I just like this picture a lot, so use it now whenever I have a salad that involves Buffalo chicken breast. Sue me.
Dinner
At the Ironwood, I had the Fire-roasted chicken pizza: Olive oil , garlic, spinach, fresh mozzarella, fire roasted chicken breast, pancetta, and caramelized sweet onions with extra bacon.

Liquid Intake
Coffee:  24 oz.   Water: 48+ oz. a short glass of Dog's Head IPA and a glass of pinot noir
