In my excitement over changing my post-retirement plans, I almost forgot the most immediate benefit.
Now that I'm going to continue making music, I'm going to take up the might Upright bass, my first bass love. I always thought it was the coolest instrument, long before I even knew what a bass guitar was (which happened when I saw McCartney's violin-shaped Hofner - the "Beatle bass").
I'm immediately trying to find a nearby teacher, and looking into rental or purchase of a doghouse now.
This is exciting. Really exciting to me. Once I get going, I might even practice!
In other news, today kicked off an intense weekend with a fun gig tonight subbing in a friend's band - the first drummer I ever played with in Syracuse. Tomorrow, I drive down to Orange County for one of my two annual reunions, this one from the first-out-of-my-parents-house college friends reunion. Small, but full of people I love. Then, before those people decide I've overstayed my welcome, beat it back home to a gig near my apartment.
I foresee a few things: First, a cheat day tomorrow. Second, no blog update this weekend. Third, sleeping in Sunday. Maybe fasting. At least until its time for my Sunday jams...
Life is good.
