I have a premonition that is about to change.
I may reset my retirement date, moving it back three or four months. My thinking here is that I don't want to make that change in the middle of Winter here, but there may be an element of holding on to a good thing as long as possible.
It is also likely that my planned retirement road trip may be replaced by quick visit to family in the Northeast, followed by a move to Florida (I want to establish residency in FL, with its lack of state income tax), before I leave the country.
I may end up with a new relationship with i am Fool (seeing how events in motion now roll out, planning on going with the flow). This may mean some changes in my playing/performing life, or it may have little impact - TBD.
Of course, when I think like this, I'm reminded of where planning has gotten me in my life: Nowhere.
I got where I got by pretty much going with the flow. At best, my plans helped me recognize which fork in the stream to steer toward, at worst, well, they made me blind to some opportunities.
I used to be very attached to planning, now I see it as a fun but futile exercise. I am fully cognizant of the fact that all plans assume I know something about the future.
Stop laughing. Please.

It is fun for you to plan, though. So as long as you know you are flexible- plan away
ReplyDeletePlanning and Going with the flow are diametrically opposed.

That's the absurdity of it. I think about every comedy I've ever seen - they're all about the way plans - and planning - screw everything up. It is hilarious to watch good and bad plans not work, and to follow the unintended consequences.
