Everyday things that distract me from doing nothing: Binging TV shows; purchase, preparation and consumption of food (and coffee); tending emails; checking personal finance; checking investment portfolio (includes news); Spanish lessons; making music.
Missing from that list are my three pages of writing every day and housekeeping, because I don't do them every day - I've given up on the three daily pages, and housekeeping, which I was trying to make a daily habit, hasn't taken, at least not on any regular basis.
Today, I did every one of those things on the list in the first paragraph, except one: Spanish lessons. Because I forgot. Plain and simple. I got caught up with some portfolio work, buying and selling some stocks, and things slid from there, and I went out to play music without realizing I hadn't done it.
It makes me feel old when something just slips like that, unintentionally and without notice.
I've always been easily distracted, but aging has made it into a kind of joke.
Today's unexpected distraction was a call from Alex. It's little wonder I am distracted from that, since it's one of my favorite things. Then, not too long after, I got a call from my friend Kokomo Slim from down in New Orleans. Those two unplanned items were enough to blow my 'schedule' (I don't have an actual schedule, I just try to order my day) out and create some deadline pressure.
I am grateful for whatever comes along on a day-to-day. I'm especially grateful for a very high boredom threshold - I'm never bored. How could I be? I'm easily distracted.
