Daily Comment

I never expected to live this long. I never expected to find happiness in Syracuse. I didn't arrive alive in Syracuse this morning because of anything I planned, ever.

I woke up today with two things: A sense of well-being and gratitude for waking up (and feeling like that).

Over the weekend, I had a reunion with New York City - I have missed you so these many months when I have been too busy or too tired to visit. During my visit I did a bunch of 'first' things: Took a walk on the High Line for the first time, and that was wonderful! Here are some pictures:






It goes without saying I ate well, and in good company: My brother and sister-in-law, my best friends Merv and Lena. I was quite delighted with both the mundane and exotic things I ate.

Sunday, I had a slightly different agenda: Breads Bakery stop, then a drive upstate to a private park and a meetup with friends from my CCNY days (beginning in the late 60s). This annual event is one I look forward to. Not only do some of my best, rarely-seen friends show up (one from Mexico!), but again the food... It was a beautiful day and a beautiful setting.

The conversations, the walking, the scenery, the smiles - it was a great time, and I'm so grateful. I know, that's boring by now, but that's how I make my way these days: In and with gratitude.

Finally, after a pleasant drive back to Syracuse, I met various people who had 'ordered' from Breads Bakery, and gave them their sweet gifts. Then it was off to some fun playing at my Sunday jams. Here's video from one:



There was a downside: My immoderate eating every day I was on the road spiked my weight up to its highest point this year. But I can deal with that easily enough.

No problem with that trade-off.

Diet Comment
An extremely high dessert intake over the weekend, and a predictable result. Fix starts today: Reduced calories, very low carb. Full of self-loathing, yet very happy. How can I be both?

Omelet with peppers, onion, greens, cheese and bacon.
