Big day for me today.
Four weeks and a day past my quintuple bypass.
The mail brought a gift from Alex: A t-shirt saying "I survived quintuple bypass surgery and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
It was also the day that my lift restrictions went from five pounds to ten pounds, much more manageable.
And, I now have medical permission to drive.
So, after an early dinner, Al drove me to my apartment, where we picked up my car, drove it to Al's to put air in the tires (all a little low, one was low enough to trigger the tire air pressure sensor)(Al has a compressor in his garage).
Then I drove back to the apartment, climbed the twenty-one steps, let myself in, and... finally... shaved. I've been waiting since August 8, when they told me I couldn't shave for fear of cutting myself and bleeding out, to shave. Mission accomplished.
I gathered up a few things (shaving and trimming kit, sweat pants, regular pants, a couple of long-sleeve shirts, a multi-adapter for my phone and other chargeable things, my CBD oil, pot and smoking stuff) keeping the ten-pound carry limit in mind, and walked down twenty-eight steps to check my mail - nothing.
Al had ridden his bicycle to my apartment, waiting downstairs to make certain everything was okay on this first time home in more than a month. Have I mentioned I have the most wonderful friends?
I'm grateful for my progress, and for all the people - medical and otherwise - who've cared for me since I went to the hospital early in the morning of August 7.
