From the Bad Things Happening To Good People Dept.
I was making a convalescent visit to a friend who just had some very painful back surgery. We were shooting the shit after he showed me his scars and medical devices (wire implants) when he got a call that his parents had been in a car accident.
His mother had bruises, but his father broke his sternum, which could have killed him, but didn't - he'll be in the hospital a while though.
I looked at him, said, "Man, when it rains it pours."
I'm not sure how these events square with my world-view. I believe in a safe Universe, and that everything happens for a reason, and ultimately for the greater good.
It's a way of thinking that almost entirely depends on the idea that knowing why things happen is beyond my capabilities, beyond my understanding, and always like that.
But, what are you going to do? Bad things happen to all people. Good things, too. Good and bad things happen to good and bad people alike. There's no discrimination, nor any way to tell from the mortal human perspective what and who is good and bad.
