Daily Comment

Welcome to the blog's fifth year!

On New Year's Day, 2011, I began a successful weight loss plan that lasted six months. Part of the plan was keeping track of everything I ate, and I decided to blog that publicly, as a way of adding a little accountability in (even if it was just in my mind).

The initial idea was to take a picture of everything I ate. That was fun. And, I think, had a lot to do with my achieving success in meeting my weight loss goal in six months.

After that, as part of maintaining the weight I had lost, I kept the weight loss blog going. It had become part of my new low-weight lifestyle.

In the first year, the blog began evolving. I had begun to have some exposure with my music, and appearing at clubs, and began seeing pictures of me on Facebook. I started adding a pic of me at the top of the page.


About halfway into the second year, two things happened: 

First, I ran out of space in my picture vault, and had to continue under a different id. 

Then, a little out of boredom, and a little because I wasn't having many conversations with other people, I started a Daily Comment. I'd pick a topic, and see where it goes, riffing on a theme. I dropped the 'weight loss' from the title to reflect that I was in maintenance mode, with my weight and my life.

Shortly after, I started taking weekends, holidays and vacations off from recording my weight and doing the blog.


That brings us up to date, and now I have posted a lot. No time to stop now.

The Daily Comment will probably change tone, as I am retiring at the end of the month (eighteen more work days!), and will no longer be writing it in bits and pieces on the job.

Diet Comment
I weighed myself New Year's day for continuity. The weekend was spent eating lightly, but skewed towards eating late at night. Sunday night I didn't eat dinner until almost eleven o'clock, and then woke up very early and couldn't go back to sleep. Otherwise, I believe I would have posted a loss.

Food Log
Breakfast
A Quest bar.

Lunch
Roasted turkey breast chopped salad: shaved Parmesan cheese, baby kale, baby spinach, chard, cole slaw mix and balsamic vinaigrette.
Dinner
I got a Christmas gift of home-made venison pepperoni, and wow! is it good. I just ate slices, dipping each in a little Philippe's famous hot mustard. Then I had a huge dish of Dal Tadka (lentil curry) and broccoli.

Snack
A Quest bar.

Liquid Intake
   Espressos: 1  Coffee:  24 oz.;  Water: 80+ oz.
