So, Friday the 13th. Never liked the movies, never had any kind of fortunate or unfortunate thing associated with that day, although I did like the occasional 'Pogo' comic reference ("Friday the 13th is on Tuesday this month! Uh-oh!").

Superstition ain't the way, I've been told.

I categorize all theism as superstitious. One of the things I like about Buddhism is that it insists you take nothing on faith. I like that a lot. I am probably not a real Buddhist, being entirely self-educated on the subject and not inclined to participate in any Buddhist groups), but I find things like the absence of dogma, at least in the basics, very compelling.

I consider myself the luckiest guy, and events regular bolster this idea, but I really don't believe in luck. I think that is what we call it when events just validate our desires.

These days, I don't have too many desires that need validating (my expectations are, usually, pretty low). The idea that these desires cause suffering, useless suffering, is mostly responsible for me trying to perform an attachment-ectomy. But those expectations, those attachments, those desires I can't remove from my life, are still regularly affirmed.

Talk about something to be grateful for!
