Tomorrow is the day I prepare for my trip to Lisbon - I fly out of Syracuse Wednesday morning.
I am not certain what the exact form my blog will take while I'm gone. I may buy myself a scale and weigh myself daily in Lisbon, unlike any of my previous trips. My thinking on this is that this trip is the longest I have taken since the early 1970s, and it's immediately followed by another equally long trip, then another - if I don't do this, I will go approximately three months without recording my weight, including the last three weeks of this year and the beginning two-and-a-half months of 2019.
I may not publish my weight here in this blog, until I'm back in Syracuse in the Spring, but I need to keep a record of my weight.
Today I spent some time in prep for my trip by ordering my prescription refills and checking my flight times, and finally dealing with Verizon FIOS: Arranging to upgrade my internet when I get back, suspending my service while I'm in Lisbon and cancelling my TV service with them - I will have much better internet and losing the TV will save me a little more than a hundred bucks a month.
That adds an item to my list of things to do to prepare for my trip on Tuesday. Other items on that list include the trivial (make copies of my passport, picking up already ordered-and-paid-for packing cubes) to the mundane (picking up my prescription refills, so I have enough to last the thirty days I'll be gone) to the compex: Packing. Which is why my next blog post will be from Lisbon.
Yes, I expect to be busy-busy on Tuesday. Which is why my next blog post will be from Lisbon.
I am excited. Very.
But I am also maintaining some detachment. I am almost exactly as prepared as I was for the trip to Chiang Mai at the beginning of the year. Lisbon, although number 3 on my list, is the most recent addition, and I think Europe is the most unlikely place for me to settle post-Syracuse.
I go with little knowledge about Lisbon, preferring to learn about the city through immersion.
I am making an adventure out of relocation-expatriation.
I want to try and get an idea what my life would be like if I lived there. That will be my focus, and that will be my guide.
I am grateful for the opportunity, and more, for the good fortune that permits me to meet this opportunity. Next time I write here, it will be in the Travel format, and will be from Lisbon.
