I take it as a given that shit happens.
It happened to me today, and it happened early and it rolled downhill, derailing much of the rest of my day.
We are talking about major appliance failure here.
The dishwasher in my apartment broke, and flooded the kitchen. It ruined the kitchen rugs, and six bath towels and a mop weren't enough to dry things out, as there was a slow leak. Pushing a rock up the mountain.
The maintenance guys were great once they got on the scene (pretty quickly, actually).
Things I didn't get to do because the kitchen was useless and there were people in the apartment included weighing myself and preparing meals.
Not that big a deal in the scheme of things, but it made the weight- and food-journaling aspect of the day moot.
I had a recording session to go to in the afternoon, and that turned out to be quite the slog, unfortunately. Still a good time, just not as productive as I'd hoped (it was my session).
Midway through, though, I got a call telling me the dishwasher had been fixed, I was good to go.
And when the session was finished, I got to go and play at one of my favorite jams, and had a very good outing.
After that, I went to hear one of my favorite solo performers at his regular gig, saw some friends there, and the rest of my night played out nicely.
I am grateful the day was like a lotus: beautiful flower above the water, roots in the mud. What a life.
