I booked my Airbnb for my Thailand trip. I've never felt so conflicted. On the one hand, I was spoiled for choice. On the other, I wanted something both cheap and convenient. And safe.
Since I was booking for a pretty long stay, my entire trip, I wanted to make sure everything about the condo was good. I also only looked for ones offered by a 'Superhost', which is someone with long-term excellent ratings and with repeat bookings.
What I got was an entire, modern, 1-bedroom condo in a great location. When all the costs were added in, it was exactly $20/night! The cheapest hotel room I felt would be appropriate was almost triple that, and, of course, no kitchen, deluxe bathroom, or terrace with a view.
The Airbnb hosts I met in New Orleans convinced me that that's the way to go.
My first Airbnb booking was made shortly thereafter, and begins Friday in Sherman Oaks. When my go-to cheap motel in LA (a pretty shabby Motel 6) raised their rates by more than fifty percent, I looked into Airbnb, and found a guesthouse (converted poolhouse) less than two miles away from Alex for twenty dollars less than my former Motel 6, and closer to Alex than I have ever stayed in the nine years I've been going out there.
It has everything I need, including being walking distance from a Whole Foods. Maybe this will be the first vacation that I don't gain a pound a day.
Also this weekend, I played a gig with Modern Mudd Saturday night, and went to Rooters blues jam on Sunday.
That's today's report. I'm not inspired at the moment I am writing, but my mere presence, and optimism for near and distant future, is something I am always grateful for.
