#2227: Wednesday, March 27: Music saves the day

I had a mixed day today.

I got myself all worked up over the Modafferi situation, again. I'm resigned to the fact that I'm out of the band, but that nobody in the band wants to talk with me, that is a different thing, and I'm finding it hurtful. It feels like friends acting in unfriendly ways to me.

>Earlier, I walked out of the apartment and left the water running in the sink. And the thing is, I thought about it after I left, and convinced myself that I hadn't, when I had. This is the opposite of mindfulness, and I think that it reflects my state of mind, and maybe, just a little, the amount of cannabis in my bloodstream at the time.

With that in the background, I went to a new open mic, (first of three for the evening). I saw some friends there, but when I got up to play, I wasn't comfortable with the other players' support for my songs, and ended up not feeling great about my performance.

In order to get to the other two open mics I had planned on leaving early, but I left even earlier after my below-par set, which is a good thing, because that's when I went home and found the water running in the sink.

The next open mic I went to was much better, and I was very pleased with the set I played bass in - where I played with musicians who were friends I had experience with and confidence in. I left feeling more positive than I had all day.

But the third open mic was the trick. Not only did I get to play a very long set on acoustic guitar and vocals (that was very well received), I got to play bass with a mix of old and new players that I feel went very, very well - and that's one of my favorite things.

On balance, a good day.

And I am grateful for it.

Diet Comment
This is good. Smaller steps in the right direction are much preferable to big daily swings. I fear my trip to the Dinosaur BBQ, however, might have been a small step backwards, though.
