I vote, and have voted every election I've been eligible for since I could. But I really can't think of more than a handful of politicians that have earned my respect. None of them have been President or Vice President.
It is a cliche to say that politicians are corrupt. The system is corrupt, so the people in the system - those who want to be in the system, are corrupt.
We vote and exercise our right to vote. People have died for that right. But those we vote for are not obligated to serve us. And they do not. In theory, they are supposed to lead us. But they do not.
In my lifetime, not a single American soldier has died for a cause in which I believe. Their sacrifice should be honored, but those that direct their slaughter should be vilified. They are not. They are politicians, and unless they are found to be corrupt by other politicians, or are guilty of crimes outside the political theater, they have immunity.
I vote, but in the places I've lived for the last three decades, my vote is in opposition to my neighbors, who are conservative, and in the majority. My candidates are perrenial losers.
Except for the current President. And he is a loser, too.
Either way, no matter who gets elected, no matter who governs, the people lose. Only the Ruling Class, the institutional wealthy, the rich and the big corporations are served. If your interests align with them, I don't know you.
So forgive me, but this little rant is almost all the politics I have time for.
Except, of course, for the fifteen or so minutes every election day, when I vote.
