It might be valuable to take a look at the last blog post I wrote before I left for Lisbon:
After a long travel day made longer by a three-hour delay by my plane out of Newark, I got home Friday night. Fifteen minutes after I walked in my door, I was asleep - that would be around 10:30pm.
And Saturday was a 'rest' day, and, except for a visit to the post office, grocery shopping, lots of texting and phone calls, and beginning to write this post, I didn't do anything.
Sunday was for reconnecting with music: I had a recording session with I am Fool at the Wailing Trailer Studio. Getting back together with the Fools and Frank was terrific. I thought the recording session went well, even though I was still tired and jet-lagged.
After the afternoon in the studio, I went out to Rooters, where it all began for me in Syracuse, for the Sunday open mic. I was allowed to play a lot. I reconnected with some friends and generally had a great time.
But I wasn't finished yet. I went to Al's Wine and Whiskey, where a friend's band was playing, and saw still more friends there. I was having a great time, but I faded around one in the morning.
Which brings us to today. I got about five hours sleep. I set about doing the final prep work for Tuesday's trip: Some house-straightening, record-keeping banking, and a wash. And, of course, packing. That night, after dinner, I went to the House of Love and Peace, and hung with most of Modafferi and a few other excellent musicians and jammed into the night, until I was literally falling asleep in my chair, while playing (Admittedly, I had eaten some magic cookies of unknown potency, and they turned out to be very potent.
That's where I'm going to leave this one-and-only post-Lisbon, pre-Chiang Mai post. It was a great interlude, a lot of fun in a short time, and now, I move to my next stop, full of gratitude, as always.
"I am excited. Very.
But I am also maintaining some detachment. I am almost exactly as prepared as I was for the trip to Chiang Mai at the beginning of the year. Lisbon, although number 3 on my list, is the most recent addition, and I think Europe is the most unlikely place for me to settle post-Syracuse.
I go with little knowledge about Lisbon, preferring to learn about the city through immersion.
I am making an adventure out of relocation-expatriation.
I want to try and get an idea what my life would be like if I lived there. That will be my focus, and that will be my guide.
I am grateful for the opportunity, and more, for the good fortune that permits me to meet this opportunity..."

Diet Comment
I seriously have no idea what to make of this, except that superior quality food, and perhaps, perhaps, a lower total calorie intake over a sustained period, is just as good no matter what it's ultimate macronutrient composition.
The same thing happened in Thailand, but I expected that, given the high amounts of fruit and vegetables in my diet there. Anyway, between Saturday weigh-in and today, I lost a little more, on the same Lisbon-type eating plan here. WTF?
