I'm good with staying even, especially because, at this weight, staying even means the trend line is actually going negative (a good thing).

#2259: Monday, May 13: Dark days thoughts

These are some dark days.

Besides a rare illness that has affected me for more than three weeks now, I have a few friends going through hard times, ranging from severe depression, illness, and imminent death.

And this is coupled with my degraded music scene. My recent illness, during which I didn't play for two weeks, gave me too much time to think about my badly-handled firing from Modafferi and, moreso, the prospect that I am Fool may be over, due to the poor health of the band's songwriting front man. While I was on my Winter trip, his debilitating heart condition caused a job problem that forced the cancellation of all the gigs we had lined up. But when I got back it was also revealed that a throat problem that had been bothering him had worsened to the point that he cannot sing, and, in fact, he loses his voice just talking. That, four months along he still hasn't gotten checked out medically is something I find highly troubling, and I fear for my friend.

This combination of circumstances has led me to thoughts that it may be nearing time when I have to leave Syracuse, and begin the next stage of my life somewhere else.

All anxiety comes from contemplating the future, and getting out of the country, permanently, is a huge task thanks to my having accumulated a massive amount of stuff, stuff I have been living in and not addressing for more than a decade.

It is, frankly, overwhelming.

And it needs to be taken on, and for years I have not been able to bring myself to start.

I will not let this weakness bring me down, but it has been weighing on my mind.

I have been procrastinating taking even the first step ever since I retired.

It ia not lost on me, though, that this is a very first-world, privileged problem to have: How to get rid of my stuff so I can go live somewhere really nice.

And I have gratitude for that unearned privilege, and totally earned challenge.

Diet Comment
I said the whole last week that my weight loss, and large up and down daily swings were related to my recovery from illness. Over the weekend, I got back to more normal activities, and my weight got back to a more normal range. So, even though a weight gain is rarely a cause for celebration.

#2257: Thursday, May 9: TV

These last two weeks I have watched more TV than I did all of the preceding year. Because sick.

I've been on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime watching, since I no longer have cable.

I have binge-watched many series, and they have mostly been good.

Yet I am frustrated with it. It is involving and passive and addictive, and I don't like that.

I think the amount of TV you watch may be inversely proportional to your health.

That is all.

Yet, I am grateful for what I have, all the time, every day.

I continue to heal - I feel better every day. My energy level gets higher, closer to normal as well, and I think my stamina is improving.

Today I had band practice with I am Fool. It was a good rehearsal, but as it went on I ran out of steam. I didn't feel sick, just tired. And I barely coughed the whole time I was out.

I'm grateful for the health I have.

Wow - look at that! While I am feeling quite a bit better, my illness lingers. I've been resting, resting, resting, not really cutting back on food, but I was 100% on-plan over the weekend, and... We have a new multi-year low. While I assume it is temporary, that I'm burning more calories fighting off the dregs of my sickness (now down just to a cough and low energy). So, there's that. And still, .

By and large, I'm feeling better. Except for a cough, which friends who've been through similar things tell me will linger for a week or two longer, I am symptom-free. I feel good enough to go out.

On the other hand, I feel lethargic. Unusually low-energy. I blame spending my down-time watching TV. I felt well enough to go out today, but didn't. I just didn't have the motivation.

Tomorrow I will do a wash and some grocery shopping. It will be the first time I've left the apartment in a week.

I am grateful for my continued existence, although it was really never in doubt. Still, it can't be taken for granted.

This flat result ends a crazy week, weight-wise. Whereas it started with some crazy yo-yo results, it ends unchanged from the previous couple of days. Acceptable, I guess.

Yesterday's big-bounce weight gain is history, as I resume losing. I'm really hoping to keep this going for about eight more pounds, although I'm not sure these large swings support further loss - slow and steady is the best way...
